About the Terrier Brasileiro
The Terrier Brasileiro, or Fox Paulistinha as it is also called, is one of Brazil's two native breeds. This feisty little dog is the product of a mixture of terrier breeds; the Jack Russell, Fox Terrier and Miniature Pinscher, all of whom arrived in Brazil with European settlers.  The Terrier Brasileiro has been popular household pet among Brazilians for many years, prized more for it's working ability and intelligence than for qualities that would be valued in the show ring. Known as a dog of the "common people", this lively little terrier was invaluable for it's skill at keeping vermin populations down, as well as an excellent watchdog and family pet. In Brazil, these terriers are often kept on farms and large estates as a "sentry", to warn the Fila and other large guardian breeds of the presence of intruders.  Terrier Brasileiros are not for "couch potatoes"! They want action -and lots of it! They thrive in active families who can provide them with plenty of physical and mental activity. They love to participate in dog sports such as agility, racing and go-to-ground. Quiet lap dogs they are not! These playful terriers are reputed to be wonderful "nannies" who love to play with children. If you are looking for a fun, lively and playful family pet that will get you into a fitness regimen - ready or not - the Terrier Brasileiro may just be the breed for you!
