Small dogs are extremely popular as pets.
They're easy to fit in small spaces, and usually don't require a great deal of

Children and small dog breeds are not always a good fit. Many
small dog breeds are too delicate and fragile to withstand a toddler's
well-meaning (usually) but clumsy and sometimes painful play sessions. There are
a few small dog breeds that are better suited to families with small children
and are listed below. Keep in mind that a toddler should NEVER be given
unsupervised access to any dog, regardless of breed.

If you have dog allergies but would still love to own a dog,
there are a number of small dog breeds that have been known to be less of a
problem for allergy sufferers. Some types of small dog breeds are low-shedding, and/or
produce less of the protein in their saliva that creates allergens in the home.
While these breeds are reputed to be hypoallergenic, there are no guarantees,
and it's very important to ensure that you can live with a dog or puppy before
you commit to adopting one. This can often be accomplished by spending some time
with a breeder among their dogs and puppies to see how your allergies respond.
Fastidious house cleaning (vacuuming and dusting), along with regular grooming
and bathing of your dog can go a long way towards harmonious coexistence of dogs
and allergy sufferers.
