About the Keeshond

Originating in the Netherlands and fondly called "The Smiling Dutchman", Keeshonds have been family companions and watchdogs throughout history. These medium-sized dogs are renowned for their sunny smiles and sunny dispositions, which have made them a very popular breed, world-wide. These wonderful dogs are alert, lively, intelligent and outgoing with people and other animals, and are especially fond and protective of children (canine babysitters!). While many breeds love to hunt and herd, the Keeshond's goal in life is to adore it's humans. Keeshonds require only low to moderate amounts of exercise ("trick knees" can make long excursions difficult) and make good pets in a country or city setting. It's bushy dual coat requires a thorough weekly brushing. They thrive on human companionship and should be lavished with plenty of TLC and quality time. Early obedience training is recommended.
